Zulu Records 2005
The loser will tell you that when you’ve finished a bottle of wine you have nothing left. The winner will regard the same green hued free-blown glass and find infinite possibilities in its poignant form. Jason Zumpano is one such winner. He has elegantly waltzed into many a Vancouver recording studio with this spirit, ready to ‘session’ on a track. Bravely sizing up a song, finding its inherent soul and plugging in – this is all a night’s work for Vancouver’s Al Kooper/Mike Bloomfield/Buddy Miles, a.k.a. J.Z. (Zumpano, Destroyer, and now Sparrow!!). With his second awesome release in his ass pocket, Jason is staring the ‘big-time’ in the face. With his hand-selected journeyman band on the road, he will surely receive his full due. If you dig up-beat pop with hooks galore – and when Buddha was handing out hooks, Jason was in line twice – then this is for you. Go ahead and Google this guy. Whatever comes back in .25 seconds is already out of date! Note: This is not actually early recordings. It is in fact the most recent Sparrow available on the market. Highlight tracks include Late Last Night, Gone and So Far From Me.
